The top 3 leading causes of homelessness are Mental Illness, Financial, and Substance Abuse.

We asked the same poll question last year and had similar responses with Money coming in at 42.4% and Mental Illness at 40.7%.

However there are many reason why someone has become homeless.  Please review the list of other issues that plague our homeless here. 

39% of the total homeless population are children 18 and under. Causes of homelessness among youth fall into three inter-related categories: family problems, economic problems, and residential instability.

We stumped the majority of people with this poll. Under 5% of funding for the Buffalo City Mission comes from corporate donations. The great majority of funding comes through people like you.  We thank you for your support in helping us Stamp Out Hunger!
